What defiles the body

I am slowly getting back on track.  Today was an extra busy day, but not really physically as much of it was spent in a car driving.  It tires me out but doesn’t use a lot of calories.  We had Wendy’s for dinner tonight, and I really wanted beef so my calorie count for today is high.  Though I know I’m over-due for confession (and that sacrament really helps you work on the virtues that counter sins like gluttony!), God is still sending me graces to help me along this journey.

When  you have to push hard to stay on track with your eating its easy to put too much energy into eating properly and forget other areas we need to work on… like being charitable.  Today’s readings are a stern warning to us all to focus less on the physical and more on what comes out…

Mt 15:1-2, 10-14

Some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders?
They do not wash their hands when they eat a meal.”
He summoned the crowd and said to them, “Hear and understand.
It is not what enters one’s mouth that defiles the man;
but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one.”
Then his disciples approached and said to him,
“Do you know that the Pharisees took offense
when they heard what you said?”
He said in reply, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted
will be uprooted.
Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind.
If a blind man leads a blind man,
both will fall into a pit.”

Its not what we put in I am reminded today, but what comes out… and so I leave you so I can finish getting the garbage ready for tomorrow morning, putting charity above my own desires for chocolate!
