Goals

Only twice before in my life have I lost weight consciously.  One was the end of highschool and the motivation was PROM.  The only other time was when my Mother-in-law lived with us for a few months.  We all went to weight watchers and I felt like I had to stay on track because I was a role-model.  I lost 40 pound and looked great – but it went back on.

AFter baby number 2, I also lost weight, but I don’t really know why.  It wasn’t a lot of weight but it motivated me to start a gym and loose the rest… only to gain more.  Between the hypoglycemia and muscle gain it was a recipe for failure.

Now I am approaching a milestone in life: the age my father was when I was born.  He died when I was 13 of a single heart attack.  I am not sure we are done having children, but I don’t want to leave my kids half grown.  Last year I started to experience age related health issues – in short, I am getting older and my body can no longer handle my excesses.  In a very real sense, for the first time I am living the consequences of my indulgences.  It is not the way God wants me to live.

So a year ago I started searching… just how did God want us to live?  This is goal number one.  Like Sex, food was created to have sensual pleasures, its not like He wouldn’t want us to enjoy ourselves so obviously I’m not to avoid it.  I found FirstPlace for Health – a bible study around healthy eating.  It was amazing how much I learned!  But it wasn’t enough.  Next I had to figure out stuff about my body… how to handle my lows, both blood sugar and blood pressure.  Over lent I finally broke the daily cookie habit, but there is still a lot more I need to do…

  • Daily start with a prayer for my health
  • Consistently log my food and exercise
  • Exercise nearly everyday in some way
  • Consistently turn to prayer in times of temptation
  • Learn how to “treat” myself with smaller amounts
  • Keep up a higher water intake
  • Ensure night time nibbling is healthy

So you see, I have a lot of changes still to make and as they only make a difference when done consistently I have a lot of work to do.  I know they are possible, and not because God is a miracle worker… though this thorn will always be a part of me, I can get to a healthy life because his grace is sufficient.

  1. I NEED TO START MY DAY WITH A PRAYER…. maybe it will help me find inner peace. No I need to go to 8:30 am Mass Monday thru Friday. Bridgette. I need to do everything on your list too!

  2. Your views are hilarious… Bordering on clinically insane. I will follow you for the sheer entertainment value of your many psychoses.
